Garage Fire in South Topeka Contained; Investigators Point to Electrical Cause
TOPEKA, Kan. — Fire crews rushed to the 400 block of SE Golden Avenue on Saturday afternoon after smoke was seen pouring from a detached garage.
The blaze broke out around 3 p.m. While the home’s occupants were inside the house, no one was in the garage at the time. Firefighters quickly contained the flames to the garage structure, preventing the fire from spreading.
The Topeka Fire Department Investigation Unit believes the fire was caused by an accidental electrical failure. Officials also noted that there were no smoke detectors installed in the structure.
No injuries were reported. Damage estimates have not yet been released. The investigation remains open.
