East Topeka House Fire Believed Incendiary; Owner Says Former Tenant Had Issued Threats
TOPEKA, Kan. — A Thursday night fire in East Topeka is believed to be incendiary, according to the Topeka Fire Department, after flames tore through a home in the 1900 block of SE Hudson Boulevard.
Crews responded shortly after 10 p.m. to find the residence burning. No one was inside at the time, and firefighters contained the blaze to the house.
The home’s owner told This Is Topeka that a former tenant had previously threatened to burn down the property. A Topeka fire investigator explained that these cases are notoriously difficult to prosecute, citing the lack of surveillance cameras in many neighborhoods, limited physical evidence, and escape routes like bike trails that allow suspects to vanish unnoticed.
The investigation is ongoing.
