Shawnee County Domestic & Officer Assault Report
By Mack Callahan
You can tell a lot about a town by what shows up in the booking log before sunrise.
On February 12, 2026, Shawnee County recorded multiple arrests tied to domestic violence and interference with law enforcement. As always, everyone listed here is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The information below is derived from public jail records.
But one name stood out overnight.
Offender Highlight: Samuel Scott Smith
Age: 39
Booking Time: 1:10 AM
Charge: Aggravated Assault; Use of a Deadly Weapon
Bond: No Bond
There are some charges that pass quietly through the overnight booking log.
This isn’t one of them.
“Aggravated assault; use of a deadly weapon” is not a paperwork offense. It’s not a suspended license. It’s not a missed court date. It is an allegation that someone introduced a weapon into a confrontation — and that escalates everything.

Public court records show prior entries for Smith dating back to 2019. Public professional listings indicate past employment at The Truth Church in Topeka and more recent employment with Frito-Lay.

None of that proves anything about the allegation. It simply adds context to a name that now appears beside one of the more serious felony accusations in the daily report.
Mack has read enough booking logs to know this: the early morning hours don’t usually produce misunderstandings. They produce moments that spiral.
As always, these are allegations. A charge is not a conviction. The courts will decide what happened. The booking log only tells us that something serious was alleged — and serious enough that bond was denied at intake.
And when “deadly weapon” shows up in black and white at 1:10 in the morning, the community notices.

Mack’s Take (System-Level, Not Personal)
The booking report doesn’t tell stories. It lists allegations. But patterns matter.
Domestic violence and law enforcement–related offenses continue to represent a steady portion of Shawnee County’s daily jail population. Whether these cases result in dismissal, diversion, probation, or prison depends on evidence and due process — not assumptions.
The log is a mirror. What it reflects is up to the courts — and, eventually, the community — to address.
