Topeka, KS – Christopher Lee Degand, 39, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections on the evening of August 31, 2025, following multiple serious allegations.
According to booking records, Degand faces three charges:
- Aggravated domestic battery – choking in a rude manner against a family member or someone in a dating relationship.
- Aggravated assault – with intent to commit a felony.
- Child abuse – knowingly impeding breathing or applying pressure to the throat, neck, or chest, or blocking the nose or mouth.

Degand, who is employed by a local garbage company, is being held without bond on all charges.
While court dates are still pending, the severity of the accusations means Degand is unlikely to see release until at least his initial hearing.
And in true Topeka fashion, the rumor mill is already churning. One neighbor reportedly summed it up by saying, “Man takes out the trash every week but couldn’t seem to take out his own issues.”
As of Monday morning, the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office has not released additional details on the incident, but more updates are expected as the investigation develops.
Anyone with information is encouraged to contact local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers.
