This weekend I decided to treat myself — and when I say treat, I mean grilled cheese therapy. I headed over to The Wheel Barrel, Topeka’s very own grilled cheese paradise, and it did not disappoint.
I went for the jalapeño popper sandwich, and honestly, I think I’m in love. The spice level was perfect — enough to wake up my taste buds but not enough to make me regret life choices. The cream cheese was smooth and balanced, not overpowering, and the bread had that golden crunch you secretly hope for every time you order a grilled cheese.

The Wheel Barrel itself has this laid-back, family-friendly vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer — even with kids in tow. It’s casual but cool, with just enough bustle to make it feel like you’re part of the Topeka food scene.
In a city like ours, supporting local restaurants isn’t just about grabbing a bite — it’s about keeping Topeka’s flavor alive. Spots like The Wheel Barrel remind me why I love this town, even when I miss the Colorado city rush.

We’ll definitely be back (I already have a list of other sandwiches I want to try). If you haven’t been, consider this your sign to go. Your taste buds — and your inner grilled cheese lover — will thank you.
