TOPEKA, Kan. — If your idea of a good Friday night involves laughing until your face hurts, a cold drink, and absolutely no need to pretend you’re enjoying another awkward social gathering, TopCity Comedy has something worth putting on your calendar.
On Friday, October 30, comedian Kyle Huber rolls into Topeka with his “Jokes 1,000 Miles From Nowhere” Tour, bringing an evening of stand-up comedy to Cosmos Court in downtown Topeka.
And judging by the promotional poster, which features Huber standing on a dirt road in a suit jacket, tie, and plaid shorts, we’re guessing this isn’t going to be your typical buttoned-up comedy show.
Three Comedians, One Night of Laughs
Headlining the evening is Kyle Huber, whose tour title alone suggests a comedian who knows a thing or two about finding humor in the middle of nowhere. Whether you’ve spent your life in Kansas or just driven across it, there’s something wonderfully familiar about that premise.
Joining Huber is featured comedian Shane Laughery, along with Jason Vassar, rounding out a three-comedian lineup that promises plenty of opportunities to laugh at life’s absurdities.
And really, couldn’t we all use a little more of that?
Downtown Topeka’s Comedy Scene Keeps Growing
One of the things we love seeing at This Is Topeka is the continued effort to bring live entertainment into our community.
TopCity Comedy has been doing exactly that, organizing stand-up shows and giving local audiences a chance to experience live comedy without making the drive to Kansas City.
There’s something special about seeing comedy in a smaller venue. You’re close enough to catch every facial expression, every awkward pause, and occasionally find yourself wondering whether making eye contact with the comedian was a terrible mistake.
That’s part of the fun.
And with tickets starting at just $15, this is one of those nights out that doesn’t require a second mortgage or a complicated weekend itinerary.

Make a Night of It
October 30 falls on the Friday before Halloween, making this an excellent excuse to get out of the house, enjoy downtown Topeka, and kick off the holiday weekend with something a little different.
Grab dinner downtown, bring a friend who desperately needs a laugh, and head over to Cosmos Court for an evening of comedy.
At This Is Topeka, we’re proud to support TopCity Comedy and the people working to make our city’s entertainment scene a little louder, a little livelier, and a whole lot funnier.
Because great entertainment shouldn’t always require a trip down I-70.
And sometimes, the best thing to do in Topeka is simply show up and laugh.
