TOPEKA, Kan. — A registered Kansas sex offender who was sentenced last year in two separate sex-crime cases in Riley County was booked into the Shawnee County Jail Monday afternoon on a new prostitution allegation.
Shawn Trey Sinnott, 49, was booked at approximately 2:55 p.m. Aug. 11 on a warrant listing the alleged offense as “Prostitution; Stimulation of Genitals W Intent To.” The Shawnee County booking record lists no bond.
The booking comes less than a year after Sinnott was sentenced in Riley County on convictions involving sexual battery and breach of privacy.
Previous cases in Riley County
Kansas offender records show Sinnott was convicted Sept. 22, 2025, of sexual battery stemming from an incident in Manhattan on June 11, 2025.
At the time of that arrest, WIBW reported that Riley County Police responded to a sexual battery report near Browning Avenue and Lori Lane. Police identified a 17-year-old girl as the victim and Sinnott, then 48, as the suspect.
Sinnott was arrested less than an hour after the incident was reported and booked into the Riley County Jail on a $50,000 bond, according to the report.
Court and offender records also show Sinnott was convicted in a separate 2025 case of breach of privacy by installing or using a concealed camcorder without consent, a felony.
The Manhattan Mercury later reported that Sinnott was sentenced in October 2025 to 18 months of probation for the breach-of-privacy conviction and one year of probation for sexual battery, with the sentences ordered to run consecutively — a total of 2½ years of probation.
Kansas offender-registration records currently list Sinnott as a registered sex offender, with registration beginning Sept. 23, 2025, and the duration listed as lifetime.
The records supplied also show another sexual-battery conviction arising from a March 31, 2025, offense in Pottawatomie County.
Second prostitution booking Monday
Sinnott was not the only person booked into the Shawnee County Jail Monday on a prostitution allegation.
David Tyler Shaw, 42, was booked at approximately 3:45 p.m. Aug. 11, about 50 minutes after Sinnott. His booking record lists a warrant for “Prostitution; Unknown Circumstance.” Shaw was also listed as being held with no bond.
The two bookings occurred close together and were attributed to the same agency code in the jail records. The booking information alone, however, does not establish that the two arrests were connected or resulted from the same investigation or operation.
No additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding either prostitution allegation were included in the booking information reviewed by This Is Topeka.
Sinnott’s latest charge is an allegation, and the booking record does not establish guilt. He is presumed innocent on the new charge unless and until proven guilty in court.
