TOPEKA, Kan. — A woman was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections Wednesday night facing a first-degree murder charge along with several additional felony allegations stemming from the same case.

According to jail records, Martha Angela-Marie Martinez, 34, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail at approximately 9:25 p.m. on August 5, 2026.

Martinez is being held without bond on the following allegations:

  • First-Degree Murder (Unknown Circumstance)
  • Aggravated Battery — Knowingly Causing Great Bodily Harm or Disfigurement
  • Battery — Physical Contact in a Rude, Insulting, or Angry Manner
  • Mistreatment of a Dependent Adult or Elder Person Resulting in Physical Injury, Confinement, or Punishment
  • Aggravated Child Endangerment
  • Interference with Law Enforcement by Concealing, Altering, or Destroying Evidence in a Felony Investigation

The booking reflects Warrant No. 2026-63425. As of Thursday morning, no court appearance had been listed in the jail record.

Authorities have not yet released details regarding the circumstances surrounding the homicide investigation, including the identity of the victim, where the incident occurred, or which law enforcement agency is leading the case.

Because the case involves allegations of first-degree murder and additional charges involving both a dependent adult and a child, investigators are expected to release more information once formal charging documents or an affidavit become available.

A booking record represents allegations only. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

This is a developing story. This Is Topeka will provide updates as additional information becomes available, including the probable cause affidavit, court filings, and any statements released by investigators or prosecutors.
