Somewhere along the line, common sense left the group chat.

According to multiple sources who spoke with This Is Topeka, what started as a stupid teenage prank involving slices of cheese ended with a road rage confrontation, a terrified teen pulling a BB gun, and Topeka police arresting the juvenile instead of the adult who allegedly chased and assaulted them.

Yes, cheese.

The incident reportedly began after three teenagers saw a prank trend online involving people throwing sliced cheese at parked cars. The teens allegedly drove south on Wanamaker and tossed cheese at vehicles stopped near an intersection.

Immature? Absolutely.

Criminal mastermind behavior? Probably not.

But things escalated fast.

According to accounts provided to This Is Topeka, one adult driver — identified by witnesses as Isaac Letson of Topeka — became enraged and allegedly began pursuing the teens through traffic for several blocks. Witnesses say the pursuit included aggressive driving, screaming, and even an illegal U-turn while attempting to catch the teenagers.

The teens reportedly turned into the Target parking lot believing they had finally lost the driver after being chased for at least five blocks.

They hadn’t.

Sources say the adult driver allegedly blocked the teens’ vehicle in, rushed the car, and attempted to pull one of the juveniles out through an open window. The other teens reportedly rolled the windows up, leaving only one passenger accessible.

That’s when one of the teens allegedly produced a BB gun.

Police were called.

And according to sources familiar with the case, the juvenile — not the adult pursuer — was arrested.

Now people are asking a fair question:

At what point does a dumb prank stop mattering more than an adult allegedly chasing down minors and trying to physically drag one from a vehicle?

Because while nobody is defending teenagers throwing cheese at cars, most reasonable adults would agree there’s a difference between calling police and launching a vigilante road-rage pursuit through Topeka traffic.

Several legal observers who spoke with This Is Topeka noted that Kansas self-defense law becomes complicated once someone allegedly blocks a vehicle in and aggressively approaches occupants. Under Kansas “stand your ground” and vehicle self-defense principles, the legal analysis can rapidly shift depending on who is considered the primary aggressor at the moment force is threatened or used.

To be crystal clear: the teen reportedly possessed a BB gun, not a firearm, and juveniles face separate legal restrictions involving weapons possession.

But the larger issue remains.

Should a grown man be allowed to chase minors through city streets over a prank involving cheese and allegedly attempt to assault them without facing scrutiny himself?

That question becomes even more uncomfortable considering screenshots circulating online allegedly show Letson’s girlfriend posting photos of the juveniles involved on social media afterward — almost as if the entire confrontation had become some kind of trophy moment.

If the facts reported to This Is Topeka are accurate, this could have ended far worse than a juvenile weapons arrest.

A lot worse.

Because when road rage escalates into physical confrontation, people panic. People react. And in Kansas, those reactions can quickly become deadly.

Maybe the lesson here is simple:

Teenagers should stop copying stupid internet prank trends.

And adults should stop turning themselves into vigilantes over processed dairy products.
