TOPEKA, Kan. — A shooting just after midnight has prompted an active investigation in southeast Topeka, centered around the 3300 block of SE Kellam Court near Deer Creek.
According to scanner traffic and multiple eyewitness accounts, gunshots were reported shortly after midnight, drawing a significant law enforcement response to the residential cul-de-sac. Officers secured the scene with crime scene tape and restricted access while beginning their investigation.
Information from individuals posting publicly and claiming firsthand involvement indicates at least one male victim suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital by a private vehicle before first responders arrived. A woman identifying herself as the victim’s girlfriend stated she drove him after he came to her saying he had been shot.
“He ran to me saying he got shot and I just jumped in the car and drove,” she wrote.
“He is stable… waiting to hear from the doctors.”
Authorities later moved communications related to the call to a secure radio channel, limiting publicly available details. Early speculation on scanner pages suggested the possibility of more than one victim, but at this time, only one injury has been consistently referenced. The victim is believed to be in stable condition.
Neighbors reported hearing multiple gunshots, and at least one residence in the area was identified as part of the investigation. Witnesses also mentioned a white Chevrolet Traverse seen leaving the area at a high rate of speed, though it remains unclear whether the vehicle was involved in the incident or used to transport the victim.
