TOPEKA, Kan. – Police are investigating after a Sunday night shooting at the McDonald’s at 1201 SW Gage Blvd drew a massive emergency response and left three people injured.

According to initial information from the Topeka Police Department and local TV reports, officers were called around 8:21 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 23 to the McDonald’s near SW 12th and Gage on reports of gunfire.

When officers arrived, they found three potential victims in the area around the restaurant. TPD has not yet released the victims’ names, ages, or conditions.

Witness posts in local police-scanner Facebook groups indicate that at least one victim may have fled the McDonald’s and collapsed at the nearby Sonic Drive-In, prompting emergency crews to secure both parking lots while they treated the wounded. Those details have not yet been confirmed by police.

Officers shut down parts of the intersection at SW 12th and Gage as they documented the scene, interviewed employees and witnesses, and searched for evidence. Photos and video from the scene showed numerous Topeka Police units along with fire trucks and multiple ambulances.
