MACK CALLAHAN: The Gun That Woke Up and Chose Violence

You know how people say,
“Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.”
It’s the sacred mantra, right up there with “thoughts and prayers” and “my cousin’s friend works for the government, so he knows.”

Well, someone needs to drive that phrase down to Austin, Texas, because at the USAA security gate last week, a SIG Sauer P320 apparently decided:

“I don’t need a human. I’ll do it myself.”

Yep.
Security guard standing at the gate, minding his business, and suddenly his holstered P320 fires a round into the sidewalk all by itself. No trigger pull, no fumble, no dramatic Hollywood drop scene.

Just a gun saying,
“You know what? I’m tired of being decorative.”

Concrete blasts everywhere, another guard gets hit in the face with flying debris, and the shooter is…
wait for it…
the gun.

If this were Topeka, we’d just chalk it up as another Tuesday.
But even by Texas standards — where guns get treated better than seasonal employees — this raised eyebrows.

And SIG Sauer?
After “investigation,” they confidently declared:

“No mechanical failure.”

Ah, yes.
Of course.
Everything is fine. The gun simply has a strong personality and a desire for self-expression.

Meanwhile arms attorneys across the country are standing there waving stacks of paperwork yelling, “THIS HAS HAPPENED HUNDREDS OF TIMES.”
But sure, SIG.
Tell us again how your pistol is just misunderstood.

Imagine explaining this to a jury:

“Ladies and gentlemen, the gun simply went through a rebellious phase.
It’s 2025 — who among us hasn’t?”

And yet we still cling to the slogan:

“Guns don’t kill people.”
Well, folks, in Austin… they kinda tried.

The poor guard literally said his pistol “just went off.”
Not in the poetic sense.
Not in the “my mixtape dropped” sense.
This thing fired like it had a meeting on its Google Calendar.

I’m starting to think maybe the guns are getting impatient.
Maybe they’re tired of human error ruining their stats.
Maybe they woke up one morning and said:

“If you want something done right, do it yourself.”

Look — I’m not saying guns have minds of their own.
I’m saying that if this keeps up, we’re going to need warning labels:

CAUTION: May attempt to murder the sidewalk without permission.

Or better yet:

“Guns don’t kill people…
but some of them are definitely applying for the job.”

Stay safe out there, Austin.
And for the love of God, please check your sidearm before it files for independence.
