TOPEKA, Kan. — The principal of Jardine Middle School was arrested Thursday amid an investigation involving multiple alleged child sex offenses, according to Shawnee County Department of Corrections records.
Todd William Haag, 56, was booked into the Shawnee County Jail at 8:45 p.m. on November 5, 2026, on four allegations involving sexual offenses against minors.
According to jail records, Haag was booked under warrant number 2026-84347 on allegations of:
- Aggravated criminal sodomy
- Sexual exploitation of a child
- Indecent solicitation of a child
- Electronic solicitation
The booking record lists Haag as being held without bond on all four allegations. No court appearance date was listed in the record provided.
The allegations are serious, but authorities have not publicly disclosed the circumstances surrounding the investigation, including when the alleged offenses occurred or whether any current or former Jardine students were involved.
School District Confirms Investigation, Announces Leadership Changes
In an email distributed to Jardine Middle School staff and families, Topeka Public Schools USD 501 acknowledged the investigation and confirmed that Haag had been placed on administrative leave.
“We have been informed of an investigation involving Mr. Haag, who is currently on administrative leave,” the district wrote. “The district is cooperating with law enforcement officials. We do not have any additional details to share at this time.”
The district also announced that Mrs. Angela Pomeroy and Mrs. Soderlund would assume leadership responsibilities at Jardine during the investigation.
Pomeroy previously opened Jardine Elementary, while Soderlund has served as both a teacher and administrator alongside her.
District officials said additional personnel would be present on campus to assist students and staff.
“We know this information is concerning,” the district wrote, assuring families that it was working closely with law enforcement and would continue sharing information as it became available.
A Career Spanning Three Decades
Haag has worked in public education for approximately 30 years, including positions at Williams, Jardine and Scott Dual Language schools, according to previously published reporting.
His arrest places a longtime educator at the center of a criminal investigation involving allegations of sexual offenses against children.
The jail’s listed allegations include sexual exploitation of a child involving an offender older than 18 and a child younger than 14, as well as electronic solicitation involving someone believed to be between 14 and 16 years old.
