61-year-old Mark Reutzel was arrested following a KBI search warrant in Topeka and transported to the Riley County Jail as part of a multi-county investigation.
TOPEKA, Kan. — October 8, 2026 — A 61-year-old Topeka man identified in public voter-registration records as a registered Republican was arrested Wednesday morning following an investigation into alleged electronic solicitation involving individuals he believed to be minors.
Mark W. Reutzel was taken into custody October 7 after Kansas Bureau of Investigation agents executed a search warrant at a residence in the 2200 block of Southwest Ancaster Road in Topeka.
According to the KBI, agents conducted the search at approximately 9:30 a.m. Reutzel was arrested around 10:50 a.m. on suspicion of two counts of electronic solicitation involving attempts to entice someone he believed was a child to engage in unlawful sexual acts.
Following his arrest, Riley County Police Department personnel transported Reutzel to the Riley County Jail in Manhattan, Kansas, where he was booked.
Public Records Reveal Political Registration and Construction Career
A review of publicly available voter-registration information through VoteRef identifies a Mark Reutzel at the address searched by investigators. The record lists his political affiliation as Republican, with voter participation recorded in multiple elections dating back to 2008.



The voter information was archived May 7, 2026, and reportedly originated from records maintained by the Kansas Secretary of State.
Additional professional records reviewed by This Is Topeka identify Mark Reutzel as a former site superintendent for 7B Building & Development, a commercial construction and development company headquartered in Lubbock, Texas.
According to an online professional résumé, Reutzel worked for the company from January 2023 through June 2025. His listed responsibilities included supervising commercial construction projects, coordinating subcontractors, managing permitting and inspections, and overseeing construction activities through project completion.
Other professional listings continue to identify him as a site supervisor associated with the company, although his current employment status has not been independently confirmed.
There is no indication that 7B Building & Development or any of its employees other than Reutzel are implicated in the investigation.
Arrest Connected to September Undercover Operation
The KBI confirmed that Reutzel’s arrest was connected to a larger law enforcement operation conducted in Riley and Geary counties during September.

The operation, involving multiple local, state and federal agencies, targeted individuals suspected of purchasing sexual services or arranging sexual encounters with people they believed to be children.
The original September operation resulted in 19 arrests on September 17 and 18. Additional arrests were subsequently announced as the investigation continued.
Authorities previously reported that no actual children were victimized during the undercover operation.
Reutzel’s arrest nearly three weeks later demonstrates that investigators continued pursuing leads beyond the initial enforcement operation.
Investigation Continues
As of the KBI’s October 7 announcement, formal criminal charges against Reutzel were pending, and investigators had not released additional information regarding the alleged electronic communications.
Authorities have not publicly detailed the circumstances leading investigators to Reutzel’s Topeka residence or whether additional arrests are anticipated.
