TOPEKA, Kan. — Two people with the Huggins name are being held without bond in Shawnee County after being arrested Sunday in connection with the same stolen-firearm investigation.

George Duane Huggins, 40, and Kendra Marquese Huggins, 36, were booked into the Shawnee County Adult Detention Center on October 5, just 10 minutes apart.

Both arrests are connected to warrant 2026-81685, according to the county’s daily booking report. DailyBookingReport 10_06_2026 7…

George Huggins is being held without bond on allegations of criminal possession of a weapon by a person previously convicted of a person or drug felony, with a firearm used in a crime, and possession of stolen property involving a firearm valued at less than $25,000. Kendra Huggins was booked on an allegation of possession of stolen property involving a firearm valued at less than $25,000. She is also being held without bond. DailyBookingReport 10_06_2026 7…

The booking records do not explain where the firearm came from, what crime authorities believe it may have been used in or the relationship, if any, between George and Kendra beyond their arrests under the same warrant.

George Huggins was arrested in major shooting investigation last year

George Huggins’ name is notable because this is not the first time he has been arrested in connection with a serious Topeka investigation.

In December 2025, Huggins was arrested following a shooting in the 2100 block of SW Tara Avenue that left three people wounded, two critically.

His December 8 booking record initially listed extraordinarily serious allegations: first-degree murder, felony murder, aggravated battery involving a weapon and armed aggravated robbery, with bond listed at $1 million.

However, those booking allegations require important context.

Subsequent police reporting characterized the investigation as involving attempted first-degree murder, rather than a completed homicide. No death was reported from the SW Tara shooting.

More importantly, George Huggins was subsequently released, and contemporaneous reporting indicated that prosecutors had not filed formal criminal charges against him in connection with the shooting as of December 19.

A booking allegation is not the same as a criminal charge filed by prosecutors, and neither is a conviction.

Back in jail — this time involving a stolen gun

Now, approximately 10 months later, George Huggins is back in the Shawnee County jail.

This time the allegations involve a firearm authorities say was stolen and George’s alleged possession of a firearm despite a prior felony conviction. The county’s current public booking information confirms both George and Kendra remain associated with the same warrant and are listed without bond.

The booking report does not establish that the firearm involved in Sunday’s arrests has any connection to the December 2025 shooting.

It also does not identify the underlying felony conviction that authorities contend prohibits George from possessing a firearm.

Those are allegations that will need to be established as the new case proceeds.

The immediate unanswered question is what prompted warrant 2026-81685 and why two people were arrested over the same allegedly stolen firearm.

George and Kendra Huggins have not been convicted of the allegations stemming from Sunday’s arrests and are presumed innocent unless proven guilty.

This Is Topeka will continue following the case as formal charges and additional details surrounding the firearm become available.

Shawnee County provides public access to its daily booking information through its inmate-search system. Inmate Search Court filings can also be reviewed through Kansas District Court records as the case progresses.
