A well-known strength and conditioning coach with deep ties to Kansas athletics was booked into the Shawnee County Jail early Thursday morning on suspicion of auto theft and criminal trespass.

Jordan Michael Worrel, 35, a certified strength and conditioning coach who once worked under legendary Kansas State football coach Bill Snyder and later at Clemson, the University of Texas, Tarleton State, and Washburn University, was taken into custody around 4:50 a.m. on October 16, 2025.

According to jail records, Worrel was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle valued between $1,500 and $25,000 and criminal trespass. His bond was set at $1,500 cash or surety, which was later posted.

Worrel’s arrest comes as a surprise to many in the collegiate athletics community. Over the years, he has built a reputation for perseverance and faith after surviving a 2013 hit-and-run accident that left him with a traumatic brain injury, multiple fractures, and cardiac arrest. His recovery and return to coaching were widely seen as a story of resilience and redemption.

Before moving to Texas, Worrel worked with athletic programs across the Midwest and served as an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Kansas State University, Washburn University, and Manhattan Christian College, among others. His professional certifications place him among an elite group of fewer than 200 coaches worldwide recognized by the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa).

On social media, Worrel frequently shares messages about faith and perseverance. A recent post read, “When God says a blessing, He means an upgrade. Be consistent, be adaptable, and be flexible. You don’t know where He will take you but it’s gonna be up!! #Godsglory #newwhip #blessings.”

The meaning of the post—and the timing—sparked quick attention online following his arrest.

As of Friday, no formal charges had yet been filed, and the case remains under review by the Shawnee County District Attorney’s Office.
