Corporate blinked, the base cheered, Uncle Hershal returns.
By Mack Callahan | Satire
Cracker Barrel tried to be something else for five minutes and found out the hard way that you can’t rebrand a porch. Then the other cracker weighed in—and his followers pounded the table—PUT HERSHAL BACK—and corporate folded like a diner napkin.
By sunrise, the memo might as well have read: We were wrong to pull “cracker,” we’re restoring Uncle Hershal, we hear claims of white discrimination, and yes—we want our base back. Fresh paint. Old sign. Same gravy.
Mack’s translation:
- “Heritage” beats “minimalism.”
- The base was louder than the boardroom.
- If your brand is a porch, keep the porch.
At the Topeka store, the rocking chairs squeaked out an I told you so, a Chiefs cap did a victory lap, and somebody beat the peg game once and retired undefeated. Balance, restored.
Welcome back, Uncle Hershal. Next time, save the agency deck money and buy more biscuits.
