Stop scrolling, Topeka! I’ve got a question for you today, and I’m betting some of you longtime residents are going to remember this one.
Do you remember when this spot on Kansas Avenue used to be a Burger King?
That’s right! Before the Golden Dragon sign went up, this location was once home to a place where Topekans could stop in for a Whopper, grab some fries, and maybe run into a familiar face or two.
Now, I want to hear from the people who remember it.
Were you one of those folks who stopped by for lunch? Did you work there back in the day? Maybe you remember going there with your parents when you were a kid, or meeting up with friends after school.
Those are the stories I love hearing.
You see, when I look at places like this, I don’t just see an old building or a business that’s changed hands. I see pieces of Topeka’s history. I see memories, families, friendships, and all those little moments that made growing up and living in this city special.
And sometimes, the places we passed by a thousand times without giving them much thought turn out to be the places we remember most.
That’s what Victory in the 785 is all about.
It’s about remembering where we’ve been while celebrating where we’re going. It’s about recognizing that our city has a story, and every one of us has played some part in writing it.
Buildings change. Businesses come and go. The signs out front might be different, but the memories don’t have to disappear.
So today, I’m asking you to help me bring a little piece of old Topeka back to life.
Do you remember this Burger King on Kansas Avenue? What years do you remember it being there? And what’s your favorite memory of the place?
Drop your stories in the comments. I want to hear them!
Because every memory shared is another little piece of our city’s history preserved.
And that’s a victory worth celebrating.
Victory!
