TOPEKA, Kan. — A 23-year-old man was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections early Sunday morning on allegations stemming from a criminal case that appears to be more than a year old.
Manuel Lopez, born Aug. 15, 2002, was booked at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Aug. 2 on a warrant tied to Case No. 25CR1586.
According to jail records, Lopez was booked on allegations of:
- Domestic battery involving knowing or rude physical contact with a family member or person in a dating relationship.
- Criminal damage to property with an alleged value of less than $1,000.
The booking record lists $1,000 bond amounts for each criminal charge. It also shows Lopez is being held for positive identification and is subject to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) hold, meaning federal immigration authorities have requested notification or transfer of custody if he is released from the local charges.
One notable aspect of the arrest is that the warrant appears to be tied to a 2025 criminal case, indicating the allegations themselves are not recent, despite the weekend booking.
Additionally, a review of publicly available Shawnee County court records found no currently open criminal case associated with Lopez under that case number or name, suggesting the underlying case may have already been resolved, dismissed, or otherwise closed before this arrest. Public booking records do not explain why the warrant remained active or what specifically led to Lopez’s arrest this weekend.
An ICE hold is an administrative immigration matter that is separate from the underlying criminal allegations. It does not, by itself, establish a person’s immigration status or serve as proof of an immigration violation.
