TOPEKA — While many Shawnee County residents spent the Memorial Day weekend attending barbecues, graduations, and family gatherings, booking reports from the Shawnee County Department of Corrections tell a different story inside the county jail.

Across four daily booking reports covering May 22 through May 25, authorities booked 98 people into the Shawnee County Adult Detention Center, with drug offenses and domestic violence-related allegations emerging as the most common themes throughout the holiday weekend.

The busiest period came Sunday night into early Monday morning, when the jail logged 30 bookings, the highest total of the four-day stretch.

Drug Arrests Dominate Weekend Activity

Drug-related allegations appeared repeatedly throughout the booking reports, most commonly involving possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Among those booked were:

  • Sarah Elizabeth Bush, booked May 22 on a narcotics possession allegation.
  • Adam Theodore Taylor Sr., booked on allegations of narcotics possession and drug paraphernalia possession.
  • Bradley Lee Barnard, booked on allegations including narcotics possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
  • Serina Nunies, booked on allegations involving narcotics possession, depressants, marijuana possession, and paraphernalia.
  • Patricia Hine, booked on allegations of narcotics possession and paraphernalia possession.
  • Tashara Yeargin-Charles, booked on allegations including narcotics possession, paraphernalia offenses, possession of a firearm with defaced identification markings, and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
  • Adomma Garcia, booked May 24 on allegations of narcotics possession and paraphernalia possession.
  • Dustin Mahurin and David Hogan, both booked May 24 on drug possession and paraphernalia allegations.
  • Henry Benson Jr. and Nicole Hall, both booked May 25 on allegations involving narcotics possession and drug paraphernalia.

Several of those arrests also included suspended-license violations, registration offenses, or other traffic-related charges.

Domestic Violence Cases Reported Daily

Domestic violence-related allegations appeared in every booking report reviewed over the four-day period.

Among those booked were:

  • Nichole Ellenburg, booked May 22 on a domestic battery allegation.
  • Daveon Maultsby, booked May 22 on an aggravated domestic battery allegation involving strangulation.
  • Chasady Stockman, booked May 22 on allegations of domestic battery and child endangerment.
  • Stephanie Manning, Cassie Ash, Talisa Williams, Garth Jackson, and Sincere Harris, all booked May 23 on various domestic battery allegations. Several cases included additional allegations such as criminal restraint, aggravated assault, property damage, or leaving the scene of an accident.
  • Olajuwon Sharpe, booked May 23 on allegations of domestic battery, child endangerment, and assault.
  • Jason Bingham and Kaylee Cowles, both booked May 24 on domestic battery allegations.
  • Lamont Taylor Sr., booked May 25 on a domestic battery allegation in addition to criminal threat and interference allegations.

The reports show that many domestic violence-related bookings resulted in no-bond holds at the time of booking, which is common in Kansas domestic violence cases pending a court appearance.

DUI Arrests Also Common

Alcohol- and drug-related driving offenses remained a significant part of the weekend workload for law enforcement.

Notable DUI-related bookings included:

  • Sheila Burnett, booked May 22 on a DUI allegation.
  • Payton Templeton, booked May 23 on a second-offense DUI allegation carrying a $10,000 bond.
  • Darvin Thomas Jr., booked May 23 on a DUI allegation.
  • Andres Jimon-Cortez, Kaden Henry, Makenzie Koranda, and Gayland Taylor, all booked May 25 on DUI-related allegations.

Holiday Weekend Snapshot

The four-day booking reports paint a familiar picture seen during many holiday weekends: drug offenses, domestic violence allegations, impaired driving arrests, and a steady stream of bench warrant pickups dominated activity at the Shawnee County Jail.

As always, all individuals listed in booking reports are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
