FOUR INCHES? TOPEKA WAKES UP TO AN ACCIDENTALLY REAL SNOWSTORM

They told us “just a dusting.” Maybe a “brief patch of morning flurries.”
Google’s little weather widget even laughed at us—“It’ll be fine.”

Then Topeka woke up yesterday and Mother Nature said, LOL, hold my beer.

Instead of the gentle, storybook flakes the meteorologists promised, the Capital City found itself buried under actual snow. Like, measure-with-a-ruler snow. Depending on where you were, reports hit up to four inches — which in Topeka-speak translates to:

  • “Do we own snowplows?”
  • “Why didn’t Dillon’s warn me we were doing bread-butter-milk today?”
  • “Is it illegal to drive 12 mph on Wanamaker? Asking for everyone right now.”

LOCAL WEATHER FORECASTERS: “WE DID SAY CHANCE…”

Area meteorologists this morning were seen updating yesterday’s forecast graphics with the passion of someone trying to erase a crime.

National Weather Service:
“There was technically snowfall in the forecast.”
Topekans:
“That’s like predicting a sprinkle and getting a monsoon, buddy.”

Meanwhile, Google Weather seems to have ghosted us. Yesterday it said “light snow.”
Today, it’s pretending it doesn’t know us — probably hiding behind the 10-day outlook.

PLOWS? YEAH… WE’RE GONNA NEED THOSE.

The city is reportedly rolling out snowplows and salt trucks like a surprise dress rehearsal nobody studied for.

You could practically hear the Public Works radios clicking on with that first cup of coffee:

“Uh… anybody else seeing this?”
“Yeah, Chief. Winter is here. Again.”

KIDS: “SCHOOL? NEVER HEARD OF HER.”

Several parents reported children sprinting to windows at 6am, screaming,
“SNOW DAY!”
…only to be informed that no such miracle was granted.

Cue the betrayal.

FINAL THOUGHTS FROM MACK

Listen, I love a good surprise as much as the next guy—but I prefer mine to involve birthday cake or a $5 bill in my jeans, not shoveling a driveway like I’m competing in the Midwest Winter CrossFit Games.

If anyone needs me, I’ll be outside rediscovering what grass looks like under a fresh blanket of meteorological miscalculation.

Stay warm, stay salty, and may your Google Weather app learn some respect.
