If there’s a person who knows how the local music scene got loud in this city — and how it kept going long after the amps cooled — it’s Bob Cutler. Today we’re proud to announce Bob as This Is Topeka’s newest contributor.
Bob currently runs and writes for Dystopeka.com, a digital capsule and ongoing chronicle of Kansas’ punk and alternative music culture. Now, he’s bringing that same deep knowledge, sharp storytelling, and unapologetically honest voice to This Is Topeka.

Equal parts history, commentary, and local news, Dystopeka captures the raw pulse of the city’s scene — from basement shows and barroom gigs to punk reunions and new local releases. Cutler’s experience reads like a map of Kansas punk history: a soundboard apprentice at 15, zine publisher, club promoter, house-show veteran, and the guy who helped bring national acts like Black Flag and D.O.A. to Topeka. He’s toured with bands, run PA systems for decades, and kept a front-row seat on the scenes that don’t always make the glossy headlines. More importantly, he’s one of the people who made those scenes happen.
