TOPEKA, KS – Some people are just born to run. For Cory Phast Lane, that phrase seems less like a metaphor and more like a life motto.
Lane, 42, was booked into Shawnee County Jail on September 9, 2025, after leading officers on yet another wild attempt to escape the long arm of the law. According to the booking report, Lane now faces a laundry list of charges including fleeing or attempting to elude law enforcement, interference with an officer, reckless driving, speeding, driving while suspended, and failure to stop at an accident. On top of that, he’s being held on a parole violation for the Kansas Department of Corrections.
This isn’t Lane’s first rodeo. Locals may remember back in 2018 when he stirred up a similar storm by running from police, earning him a reputation as Topeka’s own version of Reese Bobby—Ricky Bobby’s wayward father from Talladega Nights. If Ricky Bobby was “built for speed,” Cory Lane seems destined for headlines about high-speed pursuits.
This time around, however, it doesn’t look like he’ll be back on the road any time soon. The report shows Lane was booked with no bond attached to any of the charges, meaning he’s stuck behind bars until the court has its say.
