A Topeka man has been taken into custody on a human smuggling charge, according to the Shawnee County Department of Corrections.

Amisi Hassani, 62, was booked Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 12:30 p.m. Jail records list his date of birth as January 1, 1963.

Amisi faces multiple charges, including:

  • Human smuggling
  • Driving while license suspended (misdemeanor)
  • Vehicle liability insurance required (unknown circumstance)

Authorities confirmed that no bond has been set at this time.

Human smuggling cases in Kansas have drawn heightened attention in recent years, as law enforcement at both the state and federal levels have coordinated efforts to address suspected trafficking and transportation of undocumented individuals. While details surrounding Amisi’s arrest remain limited, the severity of the charge suggests that additional agencies may become involved as the case develops.

The Shawnee County Department of Corrections has not released further information on whether additional suspects or victims were involved. This Is Topeka has reached out to law enforcement officials for comment and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
