Exciting changes are on the horizon for behavioral health services in Topeka. Valeo Behavioral Health Care and Family Service & Guidance Center (FSGC) have announced their plans to merge into a single organization within the next year. This decision, recently approved by both organizations’ Boards of Directors, aims to enhance access to mental health and substance use services in the region while eliminating duplication of efforts.

The merger comes on the heels of both organizations achieving Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) status in 2024. As CCBHCs, they are required to provide comprehensive mental health and substance use treatment to individuals of all ages, regardless of their ability to pay or where they live. By joining forces, Valeo and FSGC will create a unified CCBHC designed to streamline services, improve care coordination, and ensure better outcomes for the community.

Key Benefits of the Merger

  • Better Access to Care: The combined organization will be better equipped to meet the growing demand for mental health services in Topeka and surrounding areas.
  • Top-Quality, Evidence-Based Care: By pooling resources, staff expertise, and treatment programs, the new entity will continue delivering industry-leading, research-backed services.
  • Improved Outcomes: A coordinated approach to behavioral health care will ensure more effective treatment plans and long-term success for individuals in need.
  • Seamless Care Coordination: The organization will work to integrate behavioral health care with physical health services, social services, and other support systems, making it easier for individuals to navigate their care.

Commitment to Staff and Clients

Both Valeo and FSGC have reassured their employees and clients that the merger will not lead to layoffs or staffing reductions. Instead, the focus will be on maintaining and even expanding the availability of services. Individuals currently receiving care from either organization should not experience significant changes in their treatment plans.

A Legacy of Service

The merger will unite two of Topeka’s most well-established mental health organizations. Family Service & Guidance Center, founded in 1904, employs 335 individuals and has been a pillar of support for children, families, and individuals facing mental health challenges. Valeo Behavioral Health Care, founded in 1967, currently employs 340 professionals and provides a broad range of mental health and substance use services.

Together, the combined organization will serve over 11,600 individuals annually, further strengthening Topeka’s mental health support system. The merger is expected to be finalized by January 1, 2026.

Stay tuned for updates as these two vital organizations come together to create a brighter future for mental health care in Topeka.
