Roy Herbert Jolly Jr., known affectionately as Roy by his loved ones, passed away on March 21, 2025, at the age of 59 in Topeka, Kansas. Born on July 7, 1965, in Portsmouth New Hampshire, Roy was a man of remarkable character, described by those who knew him as generous, handy, and friendly. He was a beloved father, son, brother, uncle, and grandfather whose presence enriched the lives of all around him.
Roy was a proud graduate of Topeka West High School, where he formed the foundation of his lifelong friendships and his strong sense of community. After graduation, he embarked on a career that would see him wear many hats, all of which he did with exceptional skill and dedication. In the 1980s, Roy began his professional journey at Nissan as a service advisor, where his knack for problem-solving and customer service became evident. In 1995, he brought his talents to Cals Mobile Homes, assisting in the setup of mobile homes, a role that highlighted his technical abilities and meticulous nature.
In 1998, Roy’s entrepreneurial spirit shone through when he started his own business, escorting mobile homes from Osage across the country. His work ethic and commitment to quality were admired by clients and colleagues alike. Roy’s journey continued in 2006 when he became a construction contractor, eventually transitioning into a role that seemed tailor-made for him—a mechanical handyman. His versatility and expertise in this field were unparalleled, making him a sought-after figure in the community.
Outside of work, Roy was a man of diverse interests. He cherished the time spent model railroading with his son, a hobby that provided them with countless hours of bonding and creativity. A hobby that allowed him to express his attention to detail and creativity. Video games provided him with a modern escape, while his love for old westerns harkened back to simpler times. But it was in the great outdoors that Roy felt most at home. Fishing and camping were activities that not only brought him peace but also served as a backdrop for creating cherished memories with family and friends.
Roy’s legacy is carried on by his loving family. He is survived by his son Christopher Jolly and girlfriend Rose, his devoted mother Sandra Jolly, and his siblings: brother Robert (Bob) McDermott, sister Deanna Henderson and brother-in-law Curtis, and brother Dave McDermott and sister-in-law Tama. as well as his aunts, uncles, cousins, several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. His role as an uncle and great-uncle was one he embraced with open arms, always ready with a joke or a helping hand for his beloved nieces and nephews. Roy was also a doting grandfather to four wonderful grandchildren Peighton, Cadence Elizabeth, Aurora and Noah, whose lives will forever be touched by his kindness and spirit of adventure. He is preceded in death by his father, Roy Sr. Roy’s generosity extended beyond his family. His readiness to lend a hand, offer advice, or simply share a friendly smile made him an invaluable member of his community. He had the unique ability to leave a lasting impression on everyone he met, and his absence will be deeply felt by many. He was a man who knew how to fix just about anything, not only with his skilled hands but also with his warm heart.
As we say goodbye to Roy, we celebrate a life lived with purpose, passion, and a profound sense of humanity. He was a man who built not just homes but also relationships, connections, and a legacy of warmth and generosity that will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
In accordance with his wishes, Roy’s life will be honored in a private ceremony attended by family and close friends. His memory will live on in the stories told, the projects completed, and the laughter shared.
