Richard Malott, age 72, unexpectedly passed away at his home in Topeka, Kansas on January 16, 2025.
Born in Topeka in 1952 to Ralph Alden and Elizabeth (Popelas) Malott, Richard graduated from Hayden Catholic High School before attending a local vocational-technical school. Upon completing his education, he was employed by Goodyear Tire & Rubber as a machinist for over 35 years until his retirement.
Richard was beloved and respected in his community, often praised for his generosity of spirit. He had a passion for riding motorcycles, particularly Harley-Davidsons, and was a strong advocate for motorcyclists’ rights and driver awareness. Over the decades, he participated in countless motorcycle rallies and made cherished memories with friends on long road trips across the country. He always looked forward to his annual pheasant hunting trip with his son and lifelong friends.
Richard married Marcia Smith in 1972, they later divorced. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He is survived by his son, Toby (Brandy) Malott; brothers Ralph (Diana) Malott, Arthur Malott, and Robert Malott; sister Rita Eraas; nephews Jason and Clayton Eraas; and niece Nicole Malott.
A memorial service honoring Richard will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka, Kansas 66614. In lieu of flowers, donations to Toys for Tots would be greatly appreciated.
