John Edward O’Flaherty, age 64, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at the VA Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri.
John was born on August 24, 1960, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Lawrence J. O’Flaherty, Sr. and Dolores M. (Eakes) O’Flaherty. He attended Highland Park High School before proudly serving in the United States Navy.
John was a skilled iron worker and a dedicated member of Ironworkers Local 24. Beyond his career, he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He had a deep appreciation for college sports and was known for his artistic talents in photography and sketching.
He is survived by his siblings; Susan Steanson, Patty Gleeson, Gerald O’Flaherty (Nanette), Annette Frisbie (Paul), and Stephanie O’Flaherty, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Larry O’Flaherty.
John will lie in state from 8:00 to 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, January 23, 2025, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:00 A.M., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 227 SW Van Buren St., Topeka, KS 66603. Burial with Navy Funeral Honors will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
