Jane Marie Schmidtberger, fondly known as Jane Marie to her loved ones, passed away in her home on April 9, 2025, at the age of 71. Born on June 13, 1953, Jane Marie was a lifelong resident of Topeka.
She leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication, embodied by her devoted husband of 37 years, Clint Schmidtberger; children, Misti (Rich) Boyden, Steve Billbe, and Brian (Teresa) Schmidtberger; cherished grandchildren, numbering 15 in all, and 12 great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Jane Marie’s kind and loving spirit will also be remembered by her many relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Scully Sr., her mother, Marge Scully, and her brother, Joseph “Little Joe” Scully II.
For 40 years, Jane Marie was a beloved figure in the Shawnee Heights School District kitchens, where she was known for remembering every child’s name and greeting them with a warm smile if she saw them out and about. In 2006, she made the decision to go back to school for her associate’s degree in nutrition. Just as she strived and achieved excellence with her work at school, so she did with her degree, as she maintained and graduated from Washburn University with a perfect 4.0.
Jane Marie’s interests were simple yet profound. She enjoyed playing softball and bowling in her younger years, and later tending to her garden, enjoying a cold beer, and most of all, spending time with her cherished grandchildren, often while sitting on her porch.
Described as loving, kind, forthright, and practical, Jane Marie’s impact on those around her was profound and lasting. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
We will love you forever and ever as you enter your forever “Home Sweet Home”.
