REV. TOMMY T.J. PARKER JR. Reverend Tommy J. Parker Jr. passed away peacefully on May 5th 2025. Rev. Tommy Parker was born on November 8th, 1944, in Taft, Oklahoma to Tommy Jefferson Parker Sr. and Ethel Mae Parker. He was the second oldest of 8 children. In 1951 the Parker Family relocated to Topeka, Ks he attended Washington Elementary, East Topeka Jr High School and Topeka High School. He also attend Midwest Bible College. In September 1966 he married the love of his life Brenda Joyce Blanchard Parker, they were married for 21 years who now proceeds him in death. They had one daughter VonTresa Tonette Parker-Jones and one Grandson Parker VanMichael Jones. He worked for Dale Sharpe Cadillac, Menninger Foundation, Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a security guard and Security Benefit Group for over 30 years. Rev. Tommy Parker excepted Christ at a very early age of 13. Rev. Tommy Parker was a faithful member of the True Vine Missionary Baptist Church for many, many years, where he served under Pastor Wilson, Pastor Buton, Pastor Joseph Clark, Pastor Melvin Wakes, and Pastor Larry Jones. This is where he received his licensed to preach in July of 2000 under Pastor Melvin Wakes. Rev. Tommy answered the calling to begin his own church, Greater Deliverance Missionary Baptist Church that existed for over 10 years. He is currently a member of the St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership Pastor McCoy Caraway. Rev. Tommy Parker’s life passion was singing with the Harmony Kings. A naturally gifted vocalist with a passion for music. Rev. Tommy captivates audiences with a voice that blends emotion, power, and precision. From heartfelt ballads to high energy anthems he brings every song to life with authenticity and soul. With a unique tone and undeniable stage presence, Rev. Tommy continued to grow as a talented singer destined to leave a lasting mark on the music world. The Harmony Kings just celebrated 60 years in ministry in November 2024. Tommy (T.J) Parker was very instrumental in keeping his father legacy. He has also been one of Topeka’s top Gospel Promoter bringing all types of gospel concerts to Topeka. He would also say one day he would sing before Kamala Harris. The Harmony Kings sang not only locally but nationwide, performing gospel’s greatest hits that were written by Tommy Parker and other members of the group. He also started the Capital City Community Choir that consisted of 40 members that traveled throughout the midwest. Rev. Tommy wrote the song “I am not tired yet” that is now being sung by the Mississippi Mass Choir. In the late 80’s Rev. Tommy Parker Jr. was the first black radio personality for WREN National Radio Station Broadcast in Topeka, Kansas which later became JOY 88 where Rev. Parker hosted a weekly gospel show Gospel Time, a two-hour show that was the first of it’s kind. Rev. Tommy used his time on the radio to be about God’s business and bring people together. Rev. Tommy was a leader in the community. He received a humanitarian award December 17th 2005 and received a key to the city. This was an honor that was presented at a local concert that he promoted, by the Topeka Mayor. What was his best conversation? with his grandson Parker VanMichael Jones. Oh how proud he was of him, watching him from a tot to now a young man attending The University of Kansas. But when he found out that Parker now plays on the drumline for the Kansas City Chiefs, you thought TJ Parker hit the lottery. Rev. Tommy found another soulmate later in life in Marva Parker. They married May 8, 1993. They were married for 30 years and later divorced. He was proceeded at death by his parents, Tommy and Ethel Parker, His wife Brenda Joyce Blanchard Parker, two brothers, Rayfield Parker and Clifton Parker. One nephew, Jeffrey Parker. He leaves to cherish his memory, one daughter VonTresa Tonette Parker-Jones. One grandson, Parker Vanmichael Jones. Four sisters, Deloris Parker-Ashdown (Howard), Beverly Bowen, Vanessa Parker, Patricia Bilal. One brother, Jonathan Jay Parker (Carla), 10 nephews, Thomas Parker (Jackie), Percy Bowen, Keyto Bowen, Greg Miller, Travis Bilal (Mandy) Tyson Parker, Tyrence Parker, Tyren Parker. One neice, Abreanna Parker and a host of great nieces and nephews, and a brother for life, Darwin Barnett.
