Marilyn "Mel" Shorter

Marilyn Shorter was born August 16, 1959, in Hollandale Mississippi. Marilyn loving parents were Q.C. and Barbara Shorter who precedes her in death. Marilyn lived most of her life in Chicago then later moved to Manhattan Kansas in 2009. Marilyn was known as “Mel” and that is what everyone called her. She knew no stranger when it came to helping others. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends. It didn’t take much to please her; she was simple, shy and easy going. We loved her dearly. Mel had a beautiful voice and loved singing when gathered together with family and friends. She loved laughing and spending time with her grandchildren. She had a special talent for making songs of her own and playing the keyboard by ear, she loved her cats. Mel was a great cook, and she enjoyed watching others eat her cooking. Mel is preceded in death by her husband Larry Conner. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. Mel was called from this life May 2, 2025, at Stoneybrook Nursing facility. She leaves to mourn her one and only daughter Barbara Shorter, and one stepdaughter Shonda Barnett, six grandchildren Tyrone Shorter, Dewuan Shorter, Tabius Shorter, Lakesha Randolph, Patrick Randolph, and Alice Randolph, two great granddaughters Aniyah Shorter, Alanee Shorter, two surviving siblings out of nine, Doris Shorter, and Emanuel Shorter of Manhattan Ks and six that preceded her in death.
