TOPEKA, Kan. — A eleven-month-old baby boy is fighting for his life after a traumatic incident in southeast Topeka over the weekend, according to people close to the situation.
The child was rushed from a home in the 150 block of SE Willow Way Street. He was transported to a Kansas City, Mo hospital., where he remains in critical condition.
Neighbors described a harrowing scene as first responders swarmed the neighborhood. At least 10 police cars lined the street as paramedics worked frantically to revive the infant. Witnesses told This Is Topeka that the child was rushed to Stormont before a call was made for a life-flight helicopter to Kansas City. Crime Scene Investigation units also arrived, sparking fear amongst the neighbors present.
The overwhelming emergency response left many in the community shaken. “It’s something you never expect to see outside your front door,” one neighbor said. “We were all just standing there praying.”
Someone close to the situation alleged that a babysitter may have been involved in circumstances leading up to the incident.
