Richard Lee Parton

July 4, 1934 - June 14, 2025

Richard Lee Parton, affectionately named by his granddaughter and known to many as “Boppa,” passed away peacefully on June 14, 2025, in his hometown of Topeka, Kansas, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on the Fourth of July in 1934, Richard’s life was a vibrant celebration of service, love, and laughter, much like the fireworks that marked his entry into the world.

A pillar of the Topeka community, Richard dedicated three decades to the Topeka Fire Department, rising through the ranks to retire with distinction as Battalion Chief. His unwavering commitment to public service was matched only by the warmth and guidance he provided to his fellow firefighters, who saw in him not just a leader but a mentor and friend.

Boppa’s Christian faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and solace. He lived his beliefs through his actions, embodying the virtues of love and charity in his everyday dealings. His gentle spirit and funny anecdotes brought joy to those around him, turning strangers into friends and friends into family.

Richard’s love story with his beloved wife, Bonnie J Parton, known lovingly as “Mimi,” was one for the ages. Together, they shared a passion for the theater, gracing many stages with their talent and enthusiasm. The curtains may have closed on their earthly performances, but the memories of their shared spotlight will forever be cherished by those who were fortunate to witness their theatrical journey.

Left to honor Richard’s legacy are his son, Stephen C Parton; his granddaughter, Heather A Parton; his great grandchildren, Jasmine and Isaac Brown; and the many other family members, hearts and lives he touched. He now joins his late wife, Bonnie, and stepson, Scotty Berridge, along with his Mom, Dad and Sister in eternal rest.

Richard’s life was a testament to the words of William Shakespeare, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.” He played many roles throughout his time—firefighter, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Yet, in each, he brought a sense of loving kindness that made the world a better place.

As we bid farewell to Richard Lee Parton, we remember a man whose life was a beacon of love and humor, and whose gentle soul enriched the lives of all who knew him. Boppa’s story may have reached its final chapter, but the legacy he leaves behind will continue to inspire and comfort us for generations to come.

Cremation has taken place. The date and time for his Celebration of Life as yet to be determined and will be announced at a later date.

Rest in peace my Boppa. You’re my shining star now
