Harold (Harry) Whitener, 86, of Meriden passed away Monday May 12, 2025, at Stormont Vail Health, surrounded by his family.
Harry was born February 16, 1939, in Lincolnton, NC the son of Raydus and Julia (Fisher) Whitener. He was united in marriage to Peggy (Jones) Whitener on September 25, 1967, in Topeka, KS. She survives at the home. Harry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by daughter Heather Whitener; sons Ryan Whitener (Brandi), Michael Whitener; grandchildren Taylor Whitener, Koby Hoar, Garrett Hoar (Kailynn), Alexis Whitener; great-granddaughter, Kyndall Hoar; brother Ray Whitener.
He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and a great friend to many.
In his earlier years he was an avid bowler and golfer. Harry was a devoted fan of the Jayhawks, Chiefs, Royals and every form of auto racing. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping with his family and friends. He always looked forward to late spring when the Orioles and Hummingbirds returned.
He retired from the Air Force after 20+ years of service including a tour of duty in Vietnam. He later worked at 7-Up Bottling and Roach Hardware.
Harry has been cremated per his request. A graveside service with burial of cremains will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Meriden Cemetery-Meriden, KS.
His family wants to extend their greatest appreciation to the Jefferson County EMS, Rock Creek Fire Department and the staff at Stormont Vail Health for their very compassionate care.
