Bradley Jay Foster, affectionately known as “BJ,” passed away peacefully on April 12, 2025, at the age of 57. A lifelong resident of Topeka, Kansas, BJ was born on March 28, 1968, to Linda Foster and Donn Foster.
BJ was a proud graduate of Seaman High School, class of 1986, and went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Washburn University in 1992. During his time at Washburn, he was a dedicated member of the Washburn Ichabods Baseball team, playing from 1989 to 1992—a time in his life he often looked back on with pride and joy.
He spent the majority of his career working with troubled youth, most recently as a Corrections Counselor at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex. BJ’s relatable past, sharp wit, and genuine desire to help the kids he served, left a lasting impact.
BJ is survived by his loving mother, Linda Foster; his sister, Lisa R. Henderson and her husband, Jim; and his beloved nephew and niece, Jordan Henderson (Brynn) and Madison Moore (Logan). He is also survived by his dear aunt, Sharon Longyear, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss him immensely. He was preceded in death by his father, Donn Foster.
BJ was a man of strong passions and an unforgettable personality. He played golf religiously, traveling to PGA courses across the country, loved to fish, and competed on several pool teams—some of which made it to national tournaments in Las Vegas. A diehard KU and Chiefs fan, he never missed a game. BJ was hilariously funny, kind, stubborn, loving, generous, loyal and always right. He had a way with words, often referring to just about anyone—friend, stranger, or pet—as “lil fella” or “dupid”, phrases that always brought a smile. One of his greatest personal achievements was approaching two years of sobriety—something he was deeply proud of and worked hard to maintain every day.
His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, in the stories shared, and in the countless moments of joy, mischief, and loyalty he gave so generously.
BJ’s family will host a service and celebration of his life on Saturday, April 26th, beginning at 12:00 PM at Happy Basset Barrel House, located at 510 SW 49th St, Topeka, KS 66609. Following the service of remembrance, all are warmly invited to stay, share memories, and raise a glass in honor of BJ—a man who brought laughter, love, and unforgettable stories to everyone he met.
