LaVon Charlene Fender

May 14, 1938 - March 29, 2025

With our deepest sorrow, we announce the peaceful passing of LaVon Fender on Saturday, March 29th while surrounded by love.

LaVon, also known as Bonnie to some, was a fiercely loving, loyal, and compassionate mother, grandmother, mentor, and lifelong caretaker.

She didn’t care if she had a penny in her pocket as long as everyone had something to eat. She truly lived by the teachings of Jesus.

She was a best friend and a guiding light to so many walks of life and generations. Her resilient spirit provided food and shelter as well as strength to lean on like a gorgeous apple tree. Deeply rooted in wisdom and self-determination.

She had an elegant eye for beauty, penmanship, creativity, and a hawk eye for spotting a quality couch. If she had ever put herself first she would have made a top-notch interior designer. Her sweetness and adorable humor will be missed every day.

And the difference she made in our lives will be felt eternally. She always said “when I pass do not cry, because I will be dancing and rejoicing in heaven.” She was a blessing to all who knew her.”

LaVon is survived by her sister, Georgie Foster (Nels) of Topeka, her son’s Mickey (Kathy), Chris (Donna) of Topeka, Danny of Fayetteville Arkansas, Johnny (Karen) Houston, TX, Lynsi (Michael) of Topeka, Kimberly (Danny) Kansas City, Mo. Twenty-one grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews also survive.

Lavon was preceded in death by her parents George and Gertrude Holmes, Brother Melvin Holmes, Sisters Evelyn Holmes, and Jackie Tabor a daughter-in-law, Tammy Harris,

her son Mark Fender.
