I just started my first real job after college, and I’m struggling with work-life balance. My boss expects me to answer emails at all hours, and my friends make me feel guilty when I’m too exhausted to go out. I want to set boundaries, but I’m afraid of looking lazy or losing my social life. How do I balance it all without burning out?”
Dear Fearful,
I wish I could feel sorry for you but you have entered life as an adult. It’s eye opening and confusing. Priorities rather than boundaries are needed. You have graduated from college. Coming out of college life to real life can be eye-opening. The job must be your #1 priority. The job requirements were lined out when you took the job. Good employees are difficult to find these days. Do a great job, keep the boss happy and socialize when you can. No need to feel guilty. You are officially an adult and good opportunities will happen as you work your way up the ladders. Believe me, this is not a burn out situation.
