  • Aggravated indecent liberties with a child
  • Sexual exploitation of a child for allegedly possessing child sexual abuse material

Authorities have stated that the suspect and the alleged victim knew one another. According to jail records, Vagts is being held on a $1 million bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for October 8, 2026, at 4:00 p.m.

The Sheriff’s Office has said the investigation remains ongoing.

Neighbors Say They Had Long-Standing Concerns

Several neighbors in the Montara subdivision told This Is Topeka they had been concerned about the situation at the residence for some time before the arrest.

According to multiple neighbors, a teenage girl had been living at the home with Vagts, and they described the living arrangement as troubling. Neighbors said they had frequently worried about the girl’s welfare and described the circumstances as “creepy,” though no one interviewed alleged witnessing any specific criminal conduct.

Property Conditions Raised Additional Questions

The residence had reportedly been vacated shortly before Vagts’ arrest.

This Is Topeka visited the property following the eviction and observed conditions, including an extensive insect infestation. The condition of the residence itself is not alleged by authorities to be connected to the criminal charges, but it underscores what neighbors described as a deeply concerning living environment.

At this time, law enforcement has not released additional information about the alleged victim or the circumstances surrounding the investigation.

As with all criminal cases, the charges against Vagts are allegations. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

Anyone with information related to the investigation is encouraged to contact the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
