A Child This Time: New Charges Follow More Than a Decade of Battery Cases: Catch and Release

There are people in this world who spend decades building a legacy.

Then there are people who apparently spend decades building a rap sheet that reads like a greatest-hits album of poor life choices.

According to court records provided to This Is Topeka, Christopher Alan Fisher, 44, was booked into jail this week on allegations of child abuse and battery after authorities accused him of knowingly impeding a child’s breathing by applying pressure to the throat, neck, chest, or by blocking the nose or mouth.

Let that sink in for a moment.

A child.

Not a bar fight.

Not some random argument.

A child.

Now, everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. That’s how the system works, and that’s important.

But if the allegations are true, the timeline here raises some uncomfortable questions.

Because this isn’t the first time Fisher’s name has appeared next to battery allegations.

Court records show domestic battery cases dating back to 2010, including allegations involving physical contact and bodily harm. Another domestic battery case appeared in 2011. Then another domestic battery conviction involving bodily harm to a family member in 2014.

Then came another domestic battery case in 2019 involving a family or dating relationship.

Then a battery case in 2022.

And now, in 2026, authorities allege the victim wasn’t an adult partner at all.

It was a child.

At some point, society has to stop pretending that repeated violence is just a series of unrelated coincidences.

Five battery-related cases spread across more than a decade isn’t exactly a person having one bad day.

That’s a lifestyle.

Most people collect baseball cards.

Some collect antique cars.

Some people apparently collect battery charges.

The truly maddening part is that every one of these cases represents another victim, another family member, another relationship, another person who allegedly found themselves on the receiving end of anger that should have been controlled long before it became criminal.

And if the latest allegations are true, the progression is difficult to ignore.

When someone repeatedly harms the people closest to them, eventually the question becomes:

Who was supposed to stop this before a child became involved?

Again, Fisher has only been accused in the current case, and the allegations remain unproven until resolved in court.

But the booking report alone is enough to leave most reasonable people asking the same question:

How many warning signs does someone get before the warnings stop being warnings?

Court records indicate Fisher was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on July 23.

Until then, the case remains pending.

But for anyone reading the allegations involving a child and then scrolling through more than fifteen years of battery-related history, one reaction seems almost unavoidable:

What the actual hell.

Editor’s Note: All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. The current allegations have not yet been proven in court. This article discusses publicly available court and booking records.
