TOPEKA, Kan. — A Topeka special education teacher at Tecumseh South Elementary was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to Shawnee County booking records.
Alex William Raines, 33, was booked into the Shawnee County Department of Corrections at approximately 3:45 a.m. on May 16. Jail records show he was arrested on a charge of “DUI Too Intoxicated to Safely Operate.”

Raines was released later that morning at approximately 9:15 a.m. on a $2,500 own-recognizance bond. A court appearance is scheduled for June 18 at 8:30 a.m.
Publicly available school directory information identifies Raines as a special education teacher in the Topeka at Tecumseh South Elementary.

Court records also show a prior alcohol-related case from 2012 involving a misdemeanor charge for minor in possession/consumption of alcohol.

As with all criminal cases, the charge against Raines is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
