TOPEKA, Kan. — A traffic stop by the Kansas Highway Patrol on Monday evening has resulted in an ICE hold for a Topeka-area man.
According to Shawnee County Jail booking records, Alex Daniel Santizo-Merida, 39, was taken into custody at 6:55 p.m. on August 11, 2025. He was booked on charges of operating a motor vehicle without a valid license and is being held on two additional detainers — one for positive identification and another for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
The ICE hold is no bond, meaning Santizo-Merida will remain in custody until federal immigration authorities determine next steps.
The case highlights ongoing immigration enforcement activity in Shawnee County, which—while less visible in the community in recent months—continues to occur in local jails.
