$150K Bond in Child Abuse, Endangerment Case
It was just after dinnertime on Wednesday, July 10, when authorities booked a Topeka man into jail on a list of troubling charges involving a child.
Trevor Eugene Paul Gabel, 34, now sits behind bars on a bond totaling $150,171. According to jail records, Gabel is accused of causing serious harm to a child, including alleged abusive head trauma that could result in permanent disability or disfigurement.

In addition to the child abuse charge, Gabel faces counts of aggravated child endangerment—accused of creating a reckless situation for a child under 18—and simple battery. He was also booked on an outstanding Topeka bench warrant.
Bond for the charges was set at $50,000 each for child abuse, child endangerment, and battery, along with a $171 cash bond for the bench warrant.
While details of this particular case remain limited, incidents of child abuse remain an ongoing concern in Topeka and across Kansas. Local advocates say child abuse often goes unreported until serious injuries occur, and law enforcement agencies regularly partner with child welfare organizations to investigate such cases.
According to data from the Kansas Department for Children and Families, thousands of reports of abuse and neglect are received each year statewide, with a significant number originating in urban areas such as Topeka. Cases involving physical abuse are among the most serious and can carry severe legal consequences, including lengthy prison sentences.
The arresting agency listed in the booking report is KS0890000.
