TOPEKA, KS — A wave of confusion and fear swept through parts of southeast Topeka Monday evening after multiple social media users reported a heavy law enforcement presence near SE 21st Street and the Hillcrest area. Eyewitnesses described a convoy of black Suburbans, unmarked white vans, and even a military-style vehicle carrying uniformed personnel—sparking immediate speculation about possible ICE involvement or a federal raid.
The online debate was fast and furious.
Some commenters claimed it was “propaganda” and denied it happened in Topeka. But others quickly fired back, confirming the location and even identifying a Topeka Police Department (TPD) vehicle clearly marked Units.
“Definitely in Topeka at Hillcrest on 21st,”
“This was on SE 21st street in Topeka,” .

Several users pointed out the presence of the FBI and KBI, suggesting the action was related to a federal investigation—possibly the recent raid on a Topeka strip club. Others, however, raised concern that the raid involved immigration enforcement, noting the use of unmarked vehicles and militarized personnel.
“If you don’t look white they’ll abduct you and send you to the worst third-world country… no lawyer, no goodbyes,” one anonymous user posted, igniting a heated response from others accusing the comment of being “racist” or “dramatic.”
While some residents dismissed the incident as just another federal warrant, others expressed fear, particularly among Latino commenters who felt targeted or anxious in the current political climate. One user claimed to have visited the scene and found “nothing there,” while others said law enforcement had already cleared the area by the time they arrived.
It remains unclear which agency was in charge, what the purpose of the operation was, or whether immigration enforcement played a role. As of this writing, neither the Topeka Police Department nor the Kansas Bureau of Investigation has released a formal statement.
