In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s enduring legacy, Revelations Evangelistic Ministry and the One Topeka Family Coalition will host the 25th Annual Gospel Concert on January 15th, 2025, at 7:00 PM. The event will take place at the Big Gage Shelter House in Gage Park, located at 635 SW Gage Blvd., Topeka, Kansas.
This annual celebration brings the community together to honor the principles of equality, justice, and unity that Dr. King championed. Featuring uplifting performances by local gospel choirs, this event serves as a reminder of the power of music to inspire change and foster unity.
In addition to the concert, free vendor booths will be available for community members and businesses. Vendors are invited to set up starting at 5:30 PM, with prior registration required by January 14th via email at [email protected].
Connecting the Concert to Topeka’s Civil Rights Legacy
Topeka holds a significant place in the history of civil rights. It was here that the landmark Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka case began, challenging the legality of racial segregation in public schools. The case culminated in the 1954 Supreme Court decision that declared segregation unconstitutional, becoming a cornerstone of the Civil Rights Movement.
Gage Park, the venue for this year’s gospel concert, is itself a meaningful location. Just a short distance away is the Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site, a preserved testament to the courage of those who fought for equality.
As the gospel choirs perform in the spirit of Dr. King, the echoes of Topeka’s civil rights history will add a profound resonance to the evening. The event stands as a celebration of progress while reminding us of the ongoing journey toward justice and unity.
